New to naturism? You are very welcome
It is completely normal to feel a little nervous before your first naturist visit. Many people do - and most soon find that the reality is much more relaxed and ordinary than they expected.
Sunfolk welcomes both experienced naturists and complete newcomers. Whether you visit alone, as a couple or with friends, you will find a friendly, safe and respectful setting where you can settle in, enjoy the facilities and take things at a comfortable pace.
What happens when you arrive?
When you arrive at Sunfolk, you will see our large wooden entrance gates at the top of the drive. There is an intercom on the right-hand side. Press the button and one of our wardens will answer, say hello and ask for your name.
Our wardens look after the whole site, so they may occasionally take a moment to answer the intercom or reach the entrance. If the gates are opened remotely, come through and wait just inside until the warden comes over to greet you.
You will receive a warm welcome. The warden will check that you are booked in and ask to see your identification, so it is helpful to have this ready.
All our wardens are friendly, welcoming and accustomed to helping first-time visitors. Hardly any of them bite.
Your Introduction to Sunfolk
The warden will ask whether you have visited Sunfolk before.
If you are a returning day visitor, you will usually be able to head into the site and begin enjoying your visit. If you are staying overnight, the warden will help you find your pitch or accommodation and explain anything you need to know.
If it is your first visit to Sunfolk, the warden will show you around the site. The tour includes the grounds, toilets and showers, spa facilities and our pavilion.
The pavilion offers plenty of indoor recreational space, together with a well-equipped shared kitchen. You are welcome to make as much or as little use of it as you like.
The tour is also a good opportunity to ask questions. Your warden will make sure you know where everything is and feel comfortable before leaving you to settle in and enjoy your visit.
Getting settled
Once you have been shown around, you can collect your belongings, get comfortable and decide where you would like to spend your time.
Day visitors arriving by car will usually return to their vehicle after the tour to collect their things and get changed. Sunfolk is a compact site, so it is easy to return to your car during the day if you have forgotten anything.
If you arrive on foot, you may prefer to use the changing room and pigeon holes, where you can change and store your personal belongings during your visit.
On warm and sunny days, visitors often relax on the grass or on the large decked area. Where you settle is entirely up to you. You can sit among other visitors and join in with the social side of Sunfolk, or find a quieter corner while you become more confident.
It is always lovely to see someone arrive feeling nervous, settle into a quiet spot and then, before long, begin chatting with other visitors and enjoying everything Sunfolk has to offer.
Do I have to undress straight away?
No. You will not be expected to undress as soon as you come through the gates, and nobody will rush or pressure you.
You can take the time you need to settle in and become comfortable. Most first-time visitors find that this happens much more quickly than they expected.
Sunfolk is a naturist venue, so you should visit intending to take part in naturism during your day. We would expect you to undress once you feel ready, but that does not have to happen immediately.
The spa facilities are nude-use areas, so you will need to be undressed to use them.
Simple naturist etiquette
Naturist etiquette is mostly ordinary courtesy and consideration for the people around you.
The main thing to remember is to carry a towel and place it between you and anything you sit on, whether that is a chair, bench or part of the decking. You can hire towels from us when you book if you prefer.
Naturists are generally a friendly and sociable bunch, and you may find yourself having plenty of conversations during your visit. As in any other setting, however, be mindful of personal space. Someone quietly reading, relaxing or dozing on the lawn may simply be enjoying some time alone, so allow them that space unless they invite conversation.
You do not need to worry about learning a complicated set of rules. Treat others with the same respect and consideration you would expect yourself, and you will soon feel at home.
What should I bring?
You do not need to bring very much for a day visit.
The main essential is a towel to sit or lie on. You may also wish to bring a separate towel for swimming, showering or using the spa. Towels can be hired when you make your booking if you prefer.
Food and drinks are available in the pavilion, and you are also welcome to bring your own. Guest fridges and kitchen equipment are available for preparing and storing food, and there is even a dishwasher, so you do not need to spend valuable relaxation time washing up.
Depending on the weather, you may also find it useful to bring sun cream, comfortable footwear, a robe or warm layer, a water bottle and shower toiletries. Please also remember your booking confirmation and identification.
When it is time to leave
When your visit comes to an end, you are free to leave when you are ready. It is not compulsory, but we would always be pleased if you stopped to say goodbye to the warden before you go and to let us know how you've enjoyed your visit.
Before leaving, remember to collect anything stored in the changing room and return any towels or other items you have hired.
If you are leaving by car, drive towards the main gates and they will open automatically as your vehicle approaches.
If you are leaving on foot, look for the small building on the left-hand side of the gates. There is a button mounted on it - press this and the gates will open for you.
