Sunfolk is a place where people come to relax and enjoy a natural setting, so how we care for the site matters to us. We do not claim to be perfectly sustainable. Running a swimming pool, sauna, hot tub and overnight accommodation inevitably uses energy and resources, and there are areas in which we know we can improve.

Our approach is to be honest about that while making practical, responsible choices wherever we can.

Sunfolk’s five-acre woodland is central to the character of the site. We manage it carefully and are replacing trees lost through disease or age, helping to preserve the woodland setting for future visitors.

This is long-term work rather than a one-off project. We will continue to monitor the condition of the trees, carry out necessary maintenance and replant where appropriate.

We recognise that some of Sunfolk’s most popular facilities require significant amounts of energy. All lighting across the site is LED, and we continue to look for practical ways to avoid unnecessary energy use.

Our electricity is supplied by Octopus Energy, whose latest published fuel mix is entirely from zero-carbon sources, with most generated from renewables.

We separate our waste and recycle everything accepted by our collection service. Wherever practical, we buy frequently used supplies in bulk, reducing the amount of packaging brought onto the site.

We also consider packaging when choosing everyday products and look for concentrated or refillable alternatives where suitable.

Almost all our kitchen, bathroom and general cleaning products come from smol. Its concentrated products use less packaging than many conventional alternatives, and the company designs its packaging to be refillable, compostable, recyclable or a combination of these.

smol is also a certified B Corp, reflecting its independently assessed social and environmental commitments.

We want the food and drink available to our guests to be enjoyable and good quality. We seek out independent producers and, where suitable options are available, businesses with recognised responsible-business credentials such as B Corp certification.

Our choices include real ice cream from a small independent producer, along with carefully selected crisps, prepared meals and canned drinks. We continue to review what we stock as better options become available.

Sunfolk can be reached by train, bus and bicycle as well as by car. We provide practical information about each option so that visitors can choose a suitable route and consider leaving the car at home where possible.

We are not perfect, and some aspects of running Sunfolk are not as sustainable as we would like them to be. Sustainability is an ongoing process rather than something we can declare complete.

We will continue looking for practical ways to use energy and water more responsibly, reduce waste, improve the products we buy and care for our woodland. We would rather be open about the work still to do than make claims we cannot support.
