Sunfolk through the years

Sunfolk began in 1931, when Eustace Miles and Rod Martin established the Sun-Folk Society on a secluded five-acre site near St Albans. It was created as a place where people could enjoy naturism, fresh air and a sense of community away from everyday life. Sunfolk is now recognised as one of Britain’s oldest surviving naturist sites.

For almost ninety years, generations of members cared for and developed the site while preserving its peaceful woodland character. The swimming pool was donated by Jenny Foster in memory of her partner, Basil Cooper—a lasting example of the generosity and shared commitment that helped shape Sunfolk.

When the Sun-Folk Society’s trustees decided to secure the site’s long-term future, Sunfolk passed into the care of British Naturism in 2020. Since then, the site has been renewed and opened to more day visitors and overnight guests, while remaining true to its original purpose: providing a welcoming place in which to enjoy and discover naturism.
